Basic Timing Using the Stopwatch Start timing by touching the Start button. Timing starts when your finger lifts from the screen, not when the button is touched. This makes it easy to start the timer without having to look at the screen.
The Lap button starts and stops the timing of intermediate intervals. Most commonly, it is used for timing individual laps during an event without affecting the overall time. Touching the button once starts the lap timer. Touching the button after the timer is running resets the timer, and records the lap time and overall time.
The Scratch button controls a timer that has no effect on the other timers. It can be used to time gaps between the leader and the rest of the pack, or any other purpose that requires a timer but doesn’t need to be recorded. The timings from the scratch timer are not saved.
Using the PhotoFinish Camera The PhotoFinish switch on the stopwatch screen turns the camera on or off. When the switch is on, a camera preview is shown beneath the stopwatch display. Once the timer is running, pressing the Stop button not only stops the timer, but also takes a picture. The name of the event, the date and time, and the stopwatch time are printed on the picture. The picture is then saved to your Camera Roll.
Important: when the Stop button is touched, and a picture taken, the PhotoFinish application must not be closed by pressing the Home button until the Saved Successfully dialog is displayed. This can take up to twenty seconds. If the app is closed before the message is displayed, it is not guaranteed that the picture will be saved.
The camera can be set to take a picture each time the Lap button is touched as well. The setting for this is in the Settings page. Note that it still takes some time for the picture to be processed and saved. If the Stop or Lap buttons are pressed before the Saved message is displayed, the buttons will still function as expected, but a picture will not be taken.
Resetting the Stopwatch To reset the stopwatch and save the timing information, the Stop button must first be pressed and the timer stopped. The reset switch can then be touched. When the reset switch is on, the Reset button can be touched, the display set to all zeroes, and the times saved. This multi-step process prevents accidental resetting of the stopwatch.
Countdown Timer The countdown timer works similar to the timer built into the iPhone/iPod Touch. The PhotoFinish countdown timer can be set to use seconds as well as minutes and hours. Once the time is set, touching Start starts the timer. The timer can be paused by touching Pause. When the timer expires, a buzzer is played as well as vibration.
The countdown timer can be used while the stopwatch is running. You can switch between the countdown timer and the stopwatch by touching the icons at the bottom of the screen.
Viewing Events and Exporting The History screen displays a list of all saved event timings. Touching any item will display more detailed information, such as notes and all lap times.
Events can be exported as a CSV file, which can be opened by Numbers or Microsoft Excel. Touch the Create Export File button in the Export screen, and wait for the messaging that says the file was created. After you see the message, touch the Start File Transfer button. In the next screen, touch the Web Service switch to turn on the web server. Once the web service starts, follow the instructions on the screen to download the file to your Mac or PC.
